Does Somnolyze record my voice or what's happening in the room?

No. The microphone signal is processed in real time in tiny buffers (~93 ms, 4096 samples at 44.1 kHz) and immediately overwritten. No audio file is ever created, kept or sent anywhere. Only abstract categories (snoring, speech, movement, ambient, loud) are saved, with timestamps.

Why does Somnolyze need so many permissions?

Each permission powers a specific feature: Microphone for live sound classification, Motion for the accelerometer-based agitation score, Apple Health to read Apple Watch phases and write Somnolyze sessions, Notifications for the smart alarm, and Speech (optional) for "commence" / "stop" voice commands. You can revoke any of them anytime from iOS Settings.

The smart alarm didn't trigger — what happened?

The smart wake-up needs an active tracking session in the background to evaluate your phase every 60 seconds. If you didn't start a session, or if iOS suspended background audio (low battery, Focus modes, force-quit), Somnolyze falls back to a regular calendar notification at your target time.

Tips: keep the phone plugged in, leave the app running before you sleep, and make sure Notifications and Background App Refresh are allowed.

Does it work without an Apple Watch?

Yes. Somnolyze has its own local phase model based on time, sound and movement. The Apple Watch is optional — when present, its HealthKit phases are layered on top for extra accuracy and your resting heart rate / HRV are pulled in.

Where is my data stored?

Locally on your iPhone (Apple Health database, encrypted by iOS) and, optionally, in your private iCloud Key-Value store if you enable iCloud sync. We don't run any server. We never see your data.

How much does Premium cost and how do I cancel?

Premium is €0.99 per month, billed by Apple through your Apple ID. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period.

Cancellation: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Somnolyze → Cancel Subscription.

Can I export or delete my sleep history?

Yes. Sessions live in Apple Health, so you can export them from Settings → Health → Export All Health Data. To delete a single session, open it in Health and tap Delete. To delete everything, you can also uninstall Somnolyze and clear its iCloud key-value pairs from iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage.

Does Somnolyze diagnose sleep disorders?

No. Somnolyze is a wellness tool, not a medical device. If you suspect a sleep disorder (chronic insomnia, sleep apnea, etc.), please consult a healthcare professional.

Which devices and iOS versions are supported?

iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The app is iPhone-only. An Apple Watch is optional but recommended for the most accurate phases and heart-rate data.
